FAY KU Outliers
September 5th-October 17th, 2009
From September 14th to 20th at Docks Art Fair (Lyon)
L MD galerie is pleased to present Fay Ku’s first solo exhibitions in France: from September 5th to October 17th at the gallery space in Paris, and at Docks Art Fair in Lyon from September 14th to 20th, 2009.
Working on paper, Fay Ku creates whimsical yet disturbing tableaux featuring children, adolescent or young women in both vulnerable and aggressive postures. With an accomplished draftsman skill and unusual vision, she exposes the tension between feminine and delicate subjects and their undercurrent violence and exploitation.
Fay Ku’s work is nurtured by her Chinese cultural heritage and the tales she used to hear as a child. The artist is also inspired by contemporary life and by the different cultures and environments that she explores during her numerous artistic residences. For instance, her recent “Bedding series”, both humoristic and softly erotic, was inspired by Las Vegas “love houses”.
Fay Ku was born in 1974 in Taipei. She lives and works in New York and received a Master of Fine Arts from Pratt Institute in 2006. She had a solo show recently at the New Britain Museum of American Art (Connecticut, May-July 2009).
